Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of September 22

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of September 22, 2025. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

 

 

—KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) 

 

HILO (NIGHT WORK)

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) In the eastbound direction between mile post 3.7 to 3.8, in the vicinity of Makalika Street and Kilauea Avenue, on Monday, September 22 to Tuesday, September 23 from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. for maintaining arrows and markings.

 

KEAAU

Side pocket closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) in the northbound direction between mile post 5 to 5.3, in the vicinity of Ikaika Street, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for maintain markings and reflectors in pocket turn lane.

 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 5 to 7, in the vicinity of Ikaika Street and Old Volcano Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mulching and shoulder work.

 

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27.5 to 28.5, in the vicinity of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Old Volcano Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for HELCO to install new powerline poles.

VOLCANO

Shoulder closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 30 to 31, in the vicinity of Kilauea Military Camp and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for paving at the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Mauna Loa Road will be used as an exit from the park.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

 

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 60 to 62, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 60 to 71, in the vicinity of Kahuku Ranch Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restriping, installation of centerline rumble strips and pavement markers.

KEAUHOU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 113.5 to 116.5, in the vicinity of Daifukuji Buddhist Temple and West Hawaii Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strip, striping, and pavement markers.

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

PEPEEKEO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 8 to 10, in the vicinity of Indian Tree Road and Kulaimano Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting trees and shoulder work.

HONOMU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 13.3 and 13.7, in the vicinity of Honomu Road and Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for boring holes for soil testing.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 15.1 and 15.6, in the vicinity of Leopolino Road, on Thursday, September 25 and Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for installation of construction signs for work on Hakalau Bridge.

NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 18.5, Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for boring for soil samples.

PAAUILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 33 to 34, in the vicinity of Mauna Kea Ranch Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for maintenance of the bridge.

 

 KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile post 0.6 to 0.7, in the vicinity of Kukula Street, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for maintaining crosswalk and pocket markings.

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile post 9 to 12 in the vicinity of Kaluahine Street and Pahoa-Kapoho Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping of lane lines, turn pockets, and direction arrows.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, in the vicinity of Saddle Road on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping of lane lines, turn pockets, and direction arrows.

 KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

KAPAAU

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 2 to 9, in the vicinity of Kohala Ranch Road on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.

 PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping, installing new raised pavement markers and traffic signal loops.
