Police Seek Leads in July 2021 Puna Murder

Hawai‘i Island police are renewing their request for information regarding an unsolved July 2021 Puna murder.

On July 31, 2021, the body of 76-year-old Michael Rosenbaum was discovered at MacKenzie State Recreation Area.

Rosenbaum, who was reported missing on July 24, 2021, was last seen alive on July 22, 2021, in Pāhoa. He lived in the area and frequently walked from his home to nearby businesses or caught the bus.

His body was found by a local fisherman on the cliffs below the beach park. An autopsy later concluded that Rosenbaum died from a gunshot wound.

The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing the investigation, which is classified as second-degree murder.
