During the week of June 2, through June 8, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 411 DUI arrests compared with 423 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.99%.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 449 major crashes thus far in 2025, compared with 443 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.35 percent.
To date this year, there have been 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities for the same time last. This represents a decrease of 20 percent for fatal crashes and 23.52 percent for fatalities.
