Effective immediately and until further notice, a Water Restriction Notice has been issued for all Department of Water Supply South Kohala–Lalamilo customers in areas including Kawaihae, Kawaihae Harbor, Hapuna Beach Resort, Mauna Kea Beach Resort, Puakō, and Mauna Lani Resort.
A Water Restriction Notice requires affected customers to reduce water use by at least 25 percent. Irrigation customers are required to reduce use by at least 50 percent.
These restrictions are needed due to unexpected well and equipment malfunctions. Reducing water use is necessary to maintain adequate water levels in the water storage tanks for all customers.
