A Pāhoa couple was charged with multiple sexual offenses against a juvenile.
Yesterday, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 34-year-old Chancen Micah-Kaikane Schutter of Pāhoa with multiple counts of sexual assault and child abuse stemming from incidents reported in July 2025.
A months-long investigation by the Area I Juvenile Aid Section resulted in the identification of Schutter and 37-year-old Chesiree A.K. Canite, of Pāhoa, as suspects.
On Monday, Dec. 29, the case was presented to a grand jury, resulting in indictment and bench warrants issued for the couple.
Following the indictment, Area I JAS personnel attempted to locate both parties at their Pāhoa residence, however, it was learned that Canite had traveled to Oʻahu. With assistance from the Honolulu Police Department, Canite was located and arrested without incident. She was charged with the following offenses:
- First-degree promoting child abuse
- Two counts of first-degree sexual assault
- Two counts of third-degree sexual assault
Bail for Canite was initially set at $250,000. On Jan. 2, she was arraigned in Third Circuit Court and released on bail conditions, including electronic monitoring.
Schutter turned himself in at the Hilo Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- First-degree promoting child abuse
- Two counts of first-degree sexual assault
- Two counts of third-degree sexual assault
Police ask anyone with information regarding these individuals to contact Detective Jenny Lee of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section in Hilo, at (808) 961-2279, or via email at Jenny.Lee@hawaiipolice.gov.
