During the week of October 27, to Nov. 2, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while six of were under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 770 DUI arrests compared with 813 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.29 percent.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 841 major crashes so far this year, compared with 832 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.08 percent.
To date, there have been 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities compared with 23 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 21.74 percent for fatal crashes and 20 percent for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
