During the week of October 20, to October 26, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 750 DUI arrests compared with 797 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.90 percent.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 824 major crashes so far this year, compared with 809 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.85 percent.
To date, there have been 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 19 fatalities compared with 23 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 21.74 percent for fatal crashes and 24 percent for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
