During the week of Oct. 13, to Oct. 19, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far in 205, there have been 727 DUI arrests compared with 782 during the same period in 2024, a decrease of 7.03 percent.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 812 major crashes so far this year, compared with 790 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 2.78 percent.
To date, there have been 17 fatal crashes, resulting in 18 fatalities compared with 22 fatal crashes, resulting in 24 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 22.73 percent for fatal crashes and 25 percent for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
