Hawai‘i Island police identified the male pedestrian who died following a recent Honoka‘a traffic collision as 48-year-old Ivan Primo of Waimea.
On October 19, Primo, who was wearing dark clothing, was struck by a southbound vehicle (a 2018 Toyota 4Runner) that swerved into the opposite lane.
Police and fire personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Primo was pronounced dead.
The 53-year-old female driver from Honoka‘a was unharmed.
At this time, police do not believe that speed, alcohol, or drugs are contributing factors. An autopsy has been ordered.
