Hawaiʻi Island D.U.I. Statistics: October 6-12

During the week of October 6 to Oct. 12, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 12 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

Thus far in 2025, there have been 708 DUI arrests compared with 767 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.69 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 794 major crashes so far this year, compared with 769 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 3.25 percent.

To date, there have been 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities compared with 21 fatal crashes, resulting in 23 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 23.81 percent for fatal crashes and 26.09 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
