Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: September 8-14

During the week of September 8 to September 14, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Ten of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 632 DUI arrests compared with 691 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.54 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 716 major crashes so far this year, compared with 708 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.13 percent.

To date, there have been 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities, compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatal crashes and 27.3 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
