High Surf Warning Issued for Areas of Hawaiʻi Island

The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Warning for all north and east facing shores of Hawaii Island, for North Kohala, Hamakua, North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna, and Ka`u Districts through Wednesday evening.

A High Surf Warning means large breaking surf, significant shore break, and dangerous currents could cause injury or death.

Due to the warning, residents should be advised of the following:

Individuals along the north and east facing shores should take necessary precautions. Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all instructions given by Ocean Safety officials.
