Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: August 4-10

During the week of August 4, to August 10, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 558 DUI arrests compared with 590 during the same period in 2024, a decrease of 5.42 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 637 major crashes so far this year, compared with 609 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 4.6 percent.

To date, there have been 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time in 2024. This represents a decrease of 35 percent for fatal crashes and 36.4 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
