During the week of June 9, through June 15, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Ten of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 432 DUI arrests compared with 449 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.79 percent.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 482 major crashes so far this year, compared with 457 major crashes during the same time in 2024, an increase of 5.47 percent.
To date, there have been 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 20 percent for fatal crashes and 23.52 percent for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
