Hilo Community Policing Officers Help Scouts Earn Merit Badges

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Hilo Community Policing Section recently participated in the 2025 Annual Scouting of America’s Aloha Council Makahiki,

This event showcased the Aloha Council’s commitment to developing and honing leadership skills, character, and respect for nature through the Scout Oath and Law. The ceremony began with a grand flag procession, during which each Troop and Pack identified themselves and renewed their pledges to the core values of scouting.

More than 100 keiki, ages 5 through 17 representing Cub Scouts through Boy Scouts, participated in the fun.

During the Makahiki, Community Policing Officers assisted scouts in earning their Fingerprinting and Crime  Prevention merit badges. The event concluded with a spirited Iron Chef competition between the troops and a Pinewood Derby car display.

Many other participants, including county and private agencies, were also present to support the scouting mission.
