During the week of April 28, through May 4, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 318 DUI arrests compared with 320 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.63 percent.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 347 major crashes so far this year compared with 341 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.8 percent.
To date, there have been 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 15.4 percent for fatal crashes and 20 percent for fatalities.
