Big Island D.U.I. Statistics: March 31- April 6

During the week of March 31, through April 6, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 260 DUI arrests compared with 250 during the same period last year, an increase of 4 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 265 major crashes thus far in 2025, compared with 275 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 3.6 percent.

To date, there have been 9 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities compared with 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatal crashes and 28.6 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
