The County’s Office of Housing and Community Development announced the award of $10.1 million in grants to 15 projects addressing homelessness and housing challenges across Hawaiʻi Island.
The grants are awarded to nonprofits through the Homelessness and Housing Fund established in 2022. Projects range from emergency shelter programs to long-term supportive housing, with a particular focus on connecting individuals to stable housing opportunities. Also included are programs offering hygiene outreach, substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling.

The Homelessness and Housing Fund was created through Ordinance 22-26, which allocates for five years 75% of Residential Tier Two property tax revenues annually to address homelessness and housing in Hawaiʻi County. The fund is set to expire in 2027.
The County funding strives to complement existing Federal and State funding resources. Over $17 million in grants were awarded in the first two funding rounds, benefiting 15 non-profit providers and supporting 37 projects.
