Yesterday afternoon, Hawaiʻi County Fire and Police crews responded to a hazardous condition incident at Sack N Save in Hilo.
White smoke was visible and officials evacuated the store as precaution until HFD crews arrived at the scene.
Crews from the Central and Kaūmana Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and HPD Officers from the South Hilo Patrol responded to the scene. HFD HAZ-MAT technicians investigated and found the source of the smoke and determined it to be a Freon leak coming from a refrigeration until. Crews were able to safely mitigate the leak and later turned the scene to refrigeration technicians who continued with repairs.
