HONOLULU (AP) - A state agency has delayed a decision on a possible 26
percent increase for health insurance premiums for state and local
government workers and retirees.
Trustees of the Hawaii Employer-Union Health Benefits Trust Fund on
Tuesday said they need more information before they decide.
The board recently learned the fund was losing more than $1 million a
month on its preferred provider plans. A consultant said the agency has
enough money to possibly continue through the middle of the year.
Earlier this month, Gov. Linda Lingle asked the Legislature to reduce
public employee health benefits and to restructure management of the
agency before it runs out of money.
Lawmakers haven't acted on the request.
