Five die in fatal car accident
|

|
HILO, Hawaii (AP) _ Five people were killed Friday night in a three-car accident on a highway in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
According to park authorities, the dead include two men and three women.
The crash happened at about ten p-m as a male driver and two female passengers were traveling in the Kau direction on Highway Eleven. Their vehicle collided head-on with two cars heading in the Hilo direction.
All three in the Kau-bound vehicle died. And a man and woman in one of the two Hilo-bound cars also died.
The male driver of the second car was flown to Queens Medical Center on Oahu for care. The male passenger in the car refused medical treatment and was released at the scene.
Authorities are still trying to reach the families of the victims.
An investigation of the crash is underway. And autopsies of the five victims are pending.
