HILO, Hawaii (AP) _ Repairs are wrapping up for the Subaru and Gemini North telescopes on Mauna Kea following the October 15th earthquakes.
But engineers say new problems are troubling the powerful W-M Keck Observatory.
The three observatories claim some of most powerful optical telescopes in the world.
Kecks' twin telescopes have been able to work in tandem since November Fourth.
But Keck spokeswoman Laura Kinoshita says the telescopes still can't be aimed at their normal speed or at certain parts of the night sky.
New consultants have been hired to assist in the complicated repairs.
And Kinoshita says scientists hope a laser study of the systems that support the 300-ton telescopes will reveal why the telescopes aren't functioning as they should.
