HONOLULU (AP) _ Seven thousand more Hawaii residents have registered to vote since last month's the primary election.
That brings the total number of registered voters in the state to more than 662-thousand.
It's one of the state's highest registration counts ever but falls short of the high point of 2002, when more than 676-thousand voters signed up for that year's general election.
The general election will be held November seventh.
Honolulu City Clerk Denise DeCosta says the numbers would be even higher if this were a presidential election year.
More than 100 federal, state and county offices at stake, but it's the major races that typically draw voter interest.
Republican Governor Lingle is running for re-election against Democrat Randy Iwase.
Democrat Mazie Hirono is seeking a seat in Congress against Republican Bob Hogue.
And Senator Daniel Akaka faces Republican state Representative Cynthia Thielen.
