HONOLULU (AP) _ Police have arrested a Republican candidate for the state House for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a valid driver's license.
Kurt Zuttermeister is challenging Democratic incumbent Pono Chong in the race to represent the Windward Oahu neighborhoods of Maunawili, Enchanted Lake, and Kaneohe in the state House.
The arrest last month was Zuttermeister's third drunk driving arrest since 1997. He was found guilty in the earlier cases.
Zuttermeister's license was revoked last week as a result of the latest charge.
The 41-year-old part-time cook says he's committed to helping the district and won't abandon the race.
Zuttermeister received 423 votes in last month's primary election, narrowly defeating Minoo Elison by 13 votes for the Republican nomination.
