Hirono leads Hanabusa; Abercrombie clinches nomination

HONOLULU (AP) _ Mazie Hirono emerged from a large field of well-known candidates as the apparent winner in the Democratic primary for the Second District U-S House seat.
Congressman Neil Abercrombie easily won his Democratic primary for the First District.
With all but one precinct reporting, Hirono, a former lieutenant governor, garnered more than 24-thousad votes in the ten-way primary race, compared to more than 23-thousand for state Senator Colleen Hanabusa, who was in second place.
Republican State Senator Bob Hogue led former state Representative Quentin Kawananakoa eight-thousand-393 to eight-thousand-194 in the Republican primary.
The Democratic and GOP winners face each other in the November seventh general election to fill the seat being vacated by Congressman Ed Case.
