Oahu's last tiki bar goes up for sale

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) _ Honolulu's last classic tiki bar is up for sale.

Adorned with tiki statues and puffer-fish lanterns, La Mariana is up for sale for three (m) million dollars.

Owner Annette Nahinu, who turns 92 later this month, says she doesn't have much longer to live and doesn't want to leave the fate of her bar up in the air.

She says after the sale she hopes to continue to live with her Maltese dog, Bombay, in the apartment over the bar.

The six-thousand dollar a month lease on the five and a half acre property expires in seven years and then must be renegotiated with the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Nahinu says she plans to donate some of the money from the sale to her alma mater, the University of Connecticut.
