HONOLULU (AP) _ Congressional candidate Bob Hogue says he won't quit writing his weekly sports column for a local paper.
That's despite a call from his republican opponent in the race for U.S. House, Quentin Kawananakoa, to stop.
Hogue, a state senator from Kanoehe, writes his column for MidWeek.
Kawananakoa says the weekly column provides Hogue with an avenue to speak with voters that other candidates in teh race for the Second Congressional District don't have.
However, Hogue says writing, coaching, and broadcasting are what he does for a living.
And Hogue says that -- unlike Kawananakoa, who is an heir to Hawaiian royalty -- he doesn't have the money to stop working during the campaign.
