Gunman shot dead by SWAT officer

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) _ Honolulu police today are continuing their investigation into last night's deadly stand-off in Waianae.

A SWAT officer shot and killed a heavily armed 47-year-old man.

Police responded to a report of a man shooting a shotgun into the air and discovered the gunman in a sedan near Farrington Highway.

Captain Frank Fujii says the suspect was shot when he aimed two handguns in the direction of an officer.

The SWAT officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure in a police shooting.
