Hawaii trails most of the nation in educational technology

HONOLULU (AP) _ A national report says Hawaii's public school system has placed 46th in the nation for use of computers and related technology in teaching.
The Technology Counts 2006 report for all 50 states and the District of Columbia gives Hawaii an overall letter grade of D-minus.
The state earned an F in one of three categories examined -- ``capacity to use instructional technology'' -- because it has no policy to ensure technology is included in educators' license requirements.
Hawaii got a C-minus for ``access to instructional technology'' and a B-minus for ``use of technology.''
State Department of Education spokesman Greg Knudsen says the report may not be a full reflection of how far along the D-O-E is with technology.
But Knudsen added the report is an indication that many states are evidently moving along more rapidly than Hawaii.
