HONOLULU (AP) _ Former Lieutenant Governor Mazie Hirono filed nomination papers today to run for Congress.
The veteran Democrat, who lost to Republican Linda Lingle in the 2002 gubernatorial election, is seeking to succeed Representative Ed Case. He's is trying to unseat fellow Democrat U-S Senator Daniel Akaka.
Hirono was upbeat about running in the Second District, which supported her four years ago.
Hirono reported earlier this month that her campaign had raised nearly 300-thousand dollars, including a 100-thousand-dollar personal loan.
Former state Senator Matt Matsunaga, who was Hirono's lieutenant governor running mate in 2002, has also announced he;s running for Case's seat.
