HONOLULU (AP) _ The state health director says the people of Hawaii will need to greet one another with fewer kisses and hugs if an influenza pandemic comes to the islands.
Chiyome Fukino told reporters that such simple social graces will need to be set aside for a while to contain the disease.
She says authorities will also have to discourage people from attending large gatherings.
Fukino spoke on the sidelines of a state pandemic influenza planning summit in Waikiki.
She says the Health Department is preparing easy-to-understand messages to send out to residents and businesses to help people prepare for an outbreak.
