HONOLULU (AP) _ A new survey says Hawaii is the most expensive state for vacationers.
According to Triple-A's Annual Vacation Costs survey, the daily cost of food and lodging for a vacationing family of four in Hawaii averages about 559 dollars.
At 518 dollars per day, the District of Columbia placed second in the survey, followed by Nevada at 348 dollars, Rhode Island at 329 dollars and New York at 329 dollars.
Triple-A says the overall cost of vacations nationwide this year has grown by five-point-four percent from last year.
It says a family of four can expect to pay an average of 261 dollars per day for food and lodging.
Much of the increase is from lodging rates, which grew nine percent to an average 141 dollars a night. The cost of meals grew almost two percent to 120 dollars a day.
