KAHULUI, Hawaii (AP) _ Maui-based biodiesel rental-car business Bio-Beetle Incorporated says it will triple its fleet and expand into California.
The small company uses cars that run on 100 percent recycled vegetable oil.
The company announced yesterday it is opening an office in Los Angeles and will continue to expand its inventory.
Shaun Stenshol, owner of Bio-Beetle, says the company now has eight rental cars on Maui and four in Los Angeles.
The company plans to expand to San Francisco and Austin, Texas, by next year.
The cars rent for between 199 dollars and 299 dollars a week, with daily rates starting at 50 dollars.
Stenshol says they run the same as standard vehicles, except for that they get more miles to the gallon and are better for the environment.
