(KPUA) Hawaii County police are again asking for the public’s assistance in locating two missing Puna residents. The whereabouts of fifty-six year old Francesca Obrien, of Leilani Estates and forty-six year old Daniel Desimone of Nanawale Estates are still unknown.
Francesca Obrien was last seen at her Makamae Street residence on August 11, 2004. A week later, she was reported missing by a family member concerned about her safety. She has not been seen or heard from since.
Obrien is described as being Caucasian, approximately five feet-six inches in height, weighing about 200 pounds and having a fair complexion, brown hair and green eyes. She also wears prescription glasses.
Daniel Desimone, who has a mental handicap, was last seen walking away from his residence on Hapuu Road on April 19, 2005. The following day, he was reported missing by his mother.
Desimone is described as being Caucasian, approximately five feet-eight inches in height, weighing about 170 pounds, clean shaven, blue eyes, balding brown hair and a fair complexion. He is known to collect cans and bottles from the roadside, dumpsters and trash cans.
In both cases, when the reports were made to police, immediate ground and aerial searches were conducted in the areas where they were last seen. Also, immediate assistance from the public was sought via the media and the cases were assigned to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Section. Extensive investigations into both disappearances continue as these cases remain unsolved.
Pleas for assistance from the community have been seen and heard in newspapers around the state as well as televised and radio newscasts, thus far to no avail. There is yet to be any confirmed sightings of either of these parties. A banner stretched across the Pahoa Village road bore Mr. Desimone’s photograph and request for assistance in locating him. The banner was taken down for repair after being damaged by high winds but will soon be back in place.
