HONOLULU (AP) _ The state is fining Goodfellow Brothers Incorporated more than four thousand dollars for burning tree branches cleared from a construction site on Kauai.
An official with the state Department of Health Clean Air Branch saw large debris of some 28 trees on fire in a pit at the end of Poo Hiwi Road on July Sixth.
Jill Stensrud supervises the branch's enforcement unit.
She says state officials will meet with the company tomorrow to explain the open burning fees, which amount to four thousand, 700 dollars.
Stensrud says most companies end up paying the fees. Goodfellow did not immediately return calls seeking comments.
Stensrud says companies are supposed to either grind trees or take them to a green waste facility.
