HONOLULU (AP) _ One of the biggest traffic problems on Maui is coming down to a downhill battle between bicycles and motor vehicles.
Operators of bicycle tours on the road that winds up to the Haleakala summit are complaining about some motorists. At the same time, drivers complain about the growing hoards of cyclists coasting down the winding two-lane road.
The Maui County Council is meeting to review problems associated with one of the island's most popular activities early next year.
Tour operators that haul bikes to the top for a thrilling sunrise ride down the winding, two-lane volcano road are estimated to generate more than 12 (m) million dollars a year.
