HONOLULU (AP) _ A Marine Corps officer organizing the Honolulu Marathon satellite race in Iraq says the event has been postponed.
In an e-mail to Honolulu Marathon spokesman Pat Bigold this week, Lieutenant Colonel Jim O'Donnell announced the race would be delayed.
O'Donnell did not comment on the reasons for the delay. In the past, he has said that a rescheduling was possible because the event was close to the Iraqi national elections set for December 15.
O'Donnell says he would brief officials later this week and get confirmation on a new date.
The December eleventh Honolulu Marathon is expected to attract thousands of runners from Japan and elsewhere to Oahu.
The Honolulu Marathon supported a similar satellite race at Tarin Kowt in Afghanistan last year.
