HONOLULU (AP) _ A four (m) million dollar federal grant will be used to create Pacific EMPRINTS -- or Pacific Emergency Management, Preparedness and Response Information Network and Training Services.
The grant to be managed by the University of Hawaii's Department of Anthropology comes through the Bioterrorism Training and Curriculum Development Program.
Principal investigator Ann Sakaguchi says the goal is to train health professionals in Hawaii, California and U-S-affiliated Pacific Islands.
She says the program targets possible incidents in the so-called B-NICE grouping -- biological, nuclear, incendiary, chemical and explosives terrorism.
The grant envisions a cadre of health professionals better equipped to recognize terrorist and other public health emergencies.
