Boulware convicted in federal court

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) _ Honolulu businessman Michael Boulware has been found guilty in federal court of five counts of filing false income tax returns and four counts of tax evasion.

The founder of Hawaiian Isles Enterprises Incorporated had been convicted of the crimes in 2001. But he was retried after an appeals court reversed the convictions. Boulware was also convicted of bank fraud conspiracy in 2001.

Boulware was an associate of former state Representative Nathan Suzuki, who was sentenced in February to three years in prison for conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.

U-S Attorney Edward Kubo Junior says from 1989 through 1997 Boulware used various schemes to divert about ten (m) million dollars he received from his coffee distribution and vending machine business.

Kubo says Boulware failed to report the income and then failed to pay taxes on it.
