HONOLULU (AP) _ The families of U-S troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were guests of honor at Memorial Day observances held today on Oahu.
Hundreds of people turned out at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, where five men killed in Iraq are buried.
Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann told the gathering they were there to memorialize the fallen's courage, heroism and devotion to duty.
Acting Governor James ``Duke'' Aiona spoke at a memorial held at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe. There's where three troops fatally wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried.
Aiona said Hawaii residents shouldn't forget the most recent Americans to give their lives in warfare.
And a small commemoration ceremony was also held at Schofield Barracks.
