HONOLULU (AP) - Punahou School has informed students that it plans to impose a dress code beginning next fall.
Students say they have been told that beginning with the next school year, they would be required to a wear shirts featuring high necklines and long enough to conceal the wearer's waist.
Upper-class students say they were told they will have to purchase shirts provided by an outside vendor selected by the school. They say the shirts will come in a range of styles but all will be conservative.
The students say the school also will allow official Punahou attire such as athletic sweatshirts, and students will be allowed to wear their own pants as long as they are at least ankle length.
Imposing a dress code has been a divisive issue on the campus of the private school.
