Hawaii Ironman winner has ban halved to one year

HAMBURG, Germany (AP) German triathlete and Ironman winner Nina Kraft had her two-year ban cut in half today because of a legal technicality.
Kraft had been banned for two years by the German triathlon union after admitting she used the endurance-boosting drug E-P-O.
Kraft now is banned until November 12th.
The union voted to extend doping bans to two years before Kraft's offense, but had not yet formalized the change. The union's legal panel therefore ruled that the shorter ban should apply to Kraft.
Kraft tested positive for E-P-O and admitted using the substance before winning the Ironman Triathlon World Championship on the Big Island in October.
