| HONOLULU (AP) _ A 33-year-old Waipahu man has been arrested in connection with a New Year's fireworks explosion in Aiea that severely injured an 11-year-old girl.
The man turned himself in at the main police station last night and was booked on one count each of first-degree reckless endangering and second-degree assault. He was released without charges pending further investigation.
The arrest came a week after a home-made explosive device blew up during the New Year's Eve celebration. The blast injured Cyndee Somera, who suffered broken bones in her wrist and severed tendons in her fingers. She has had three surgeries at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center to repair broken bones and will have more surgery next week to repair nerve damage.
