Hannemann sworn in again as Honolulu mayor in public ceremony

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) _ Mufi Hannemann was sworn in Wednesday as mayor of Honolulu in a ceremony held before hundreds gathered at Honolulu Hale.

Hannemann vowed to bring more unity to politics on Oahu and to knock the island into shape in a manner similar to New York City's former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Hannemann says that like Giuliani, his love for the city he leads is embedded in his chest.

And as Giuliani instilled order to the notoriously unruly city of New York, Hannemann says he plans to clean up the City and County of Honolulu -- helping to solve the problems of leaking sewers, bumpy roads, garbage and crime.

Shortly after being sworn in, Hannemann told the crowd he was the happiest man on Oahu today.

It was actually his second swearing in. Another smaller ceremony was held in Kapiolani over the weekend.
