WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) _ The owner of a 90-pound dog that attacked two people on Maui has a date in court next month.
Scott Barrie is scheduled to appear in District Court on January 11th for allegedly failing to comply with the dangerous-dog law.
Barrie's pit bull named Faust was impounded on Friday, two days after Maui County Animal Control Board had released the dog following an attack. Barrie had failed to meet all the conditions of the animal's release.
The dog was initially impounded on November 16th after it tore off a chuck of a women's scalp. Sandra Sardinha also suffered severe bite wounds. The same animal had attacked a man earlier.
Barrie faces a one thousand dollar fine and 30 days in jail if convicted of the petty misdemeanor charge.
Prosecutors say that if Barrie is convicted, a judge could decide to have the dog put down if it poses a continuing threat to the public.
