`American Idol' finalist Camile Velasco in Manila for concert

MANILA, Philippines (AP) _ Camile Velasco, Maui's ``American Idol'' finalist, is visiting her her native Philippines this week. Velasco is scheduled to be a guest singer this Friday at the ``All You Need is Love'' concert, starring Filipino ``concert king'' Martin Nievera. Velasco arrived in Manila last Friday. She's meeting Nievera today and will rehearse her song numbers tomorrow and Thursday. The 19-year-old had already appeared on weekend variety shows on Philippine television. Velasco was born in the Philippines, and a year later left with her family for Hawaii. She's currently living and studying in Los Angeles. Velasco and fellow Hawaii singer Jasmine Trias were the two Filipino-Americans who were among the finalists in last season's ``American Idol.'' Velasco is scheduled to return for another concert with a Filipino band, ``Southborder,'' in February. (Copyright 2004 Associated Press. All rights reserved.)
