Hawaii Ethics Commission changes disclosure rules

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) The financial information of many public officials serving on state boards and commissions will not be made public until next year.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the Hawaii Ethics Commission voted Wednesday to withhold some statements from the public.

Those that filed reports before July 8 are off the hook until they file again in 2015.

The commission is responding to a new law that expands whose financial disclosures are released. Members of 15 state boards and commissions have been added to the group.

But 26 volunteer board members have resigned over privacy concerns since the law was passed.

The House and Senate had unanimously approved the bill. It makes public officials release the income, investments, real estate holdings and business interests of themselves, their spouses and their dependent children.
