Honolulu pitched for Obama library

By 67AM KPUA News

HONOLULU (AP) Hawaii officials angling for an Obama presidential library say getting picked for the facility would mean jobs and visitors.

The University of Hawaii, the state and Honolulu on Monday submitted a joint proposal to the Barack Obama Foundation seeking to host the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Honolulu. Hawaii's bid proposes the center for eight acres of Hawaii Community Development Authority land in Kakaako.

The complex would include an interactive museum, visitor center, presidential archive, a convening institute and a global youth leadership academy.

The proposal says the facility would create 2,130 new jobs during construction and $556 million in economic activity.
