Arakawa endorses Hannemann

By 67AM KPUA News

Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann has picked up the backing of Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, who announced on Friday that he was endorsing Hannemanns bid for Governor.

Hannemann is running as the candidate of the newly formed Hawaii Independent Party, and is trying to replace Governor Neil Abercrombie, who beat him in the Democratic primary in 2010.

Abercrombie is facing State Senator David Ige in this year's Democratic primary. Former Lieutenant Governor James "Duke" Aiona, who lost to Abercrombie in the 2010 general election, is running again as a Republican candidate.

Arakawa announced his endorsement at the headquarters of the State of Hawai`i Organization of Police Officers, which is also backing Hannemenn.
