Fallen tree victim remains critical

By 67AM KPUA News

A 56-year old Big Island man remains hospitalized in critical condition with multiple injuries, more than two weeks after he was nearly killed by a falling tree on Maui.

David Biesemeyer was spending a day on the island to attend the annual taro festival when an 80-foot tall Ironwood tree collapsed on him shattering the first vertebra of his neck and leaving him unable to breath on his own. Biesemeyer, who lost half his blood supply, also suffered six broken ribs, a punctured lung, crushed pelvis, a broken collarbone and had to have a foot re-attached.

Eyewitnesses say the tree was located on the south west corner of Mill Place and Hana Highway across from Hasegawa General Store. (
